Firearms frustration.
So, I'm still looking for a .22 pistol and I'm pretty well set on a buckmark now. One of the guys at the gun shop w/ an indoor range that I go to suggested the buckmark and then I posted that thread on suggestions for a .22 pistol. Problem is they have none to sell down there, they are all out. My wife called another shop thats just a few miles up the road from us and they said they had a few in. I went up there and checked them out. I purchased my DPMS AP4 from there and was happy with that purchase, but alot of their prices are a bit high. They wanted 700 for the matte black XDM when it came out and they still want 700 for the stainless. So anyway, back to the buckmark, I ask him what model it was since there are so many and I'm just learning about them. He tells me its the buckmark plus. Now I'm at home and looking at the browning website and I was holding the buckmark standard stainless urx (MSRP 439) and not the buckmark plus stainless black laminated udx (MSRP 509). And the place has the word discount in the name. $10 over MSRP is a discount? Is it so much to ask that the guy selling me something actually knows what in the hell he is selling? Or am I just an a-hole like my wife lovingly says?

Re: Firearms frustration.
I bought a Buckmark Camper for $275 from Sportman's Warehouse last year. I fitted it with hand-carved wood grips, reversed the sear spring (20 ounce trigger pull), mounted a scope rail, drilled and tapped thumb screws for cocking "ears", and polished the sides of the frame to a high gloss. One fine-shooting .22!
I wanted a "Hunter" model, but couldn't find one anywhere. I think it is the best combo for a Browning. My only complaint is that nobody makes a high-capacity .22 pistol. My brother picked up a Baretta U22 Neos, and after doing a trigger job on it I have to admit that it takes down easier than the Ruger or Browning. It also handles well if you can get past the weird looks. |
Re: Firearms frustration.
Dont expect people at the gun store to know anything about guns.
While i was waiting in line today I heard some guy trying to "teach" another guy about how DPMS AR15s are so much better than LMT's MRP platform... |

Re: Firearms frustration.
This is my T (for target) Model Buckmark below. Other than the mounting rail its main advantages are adjustable trigger and sights. I've had this for around 15 years, you can tell it has seen some use.

If you guys haven't been there, check out www.rimfirecentral.com. They have a Buckmark subforum, and there is a TON of information on tuning the Buckmark. The best tip is to take out and reverse the sear spring. Makes a WORLD of difference on the trigger pull. Here is a picture of mine. Note the custom cocking ears and the custom walnut wrap-around grips (good for large hands). I also "de-golded" the trigger with a buffing wheel. The holo-sight it cheap, but it works. Id like to get a better scope for it. Perhaps a quality Leupold 2x. I think it would look better without the front sight, but there is a large guide hole in addition to the tapped hole in the front of the barrel. |
